Welcome to my E-Portfolio!
My name is Sarah Bailin, and I am an undergraduate Elementary Education major at Penn State University, intending to graduate in May of 2017. As an aspiring teacher, I realize that learning to communicate effectively is extremely important in the teaching field, as well as in everyday life. Through my time at Penn State, I have learned different skills and techniques on how to communicate successfully, whether it be written or verbal communication. In this portfolio, you will find what I believe to be some of my best work, in terms of written communication and verbal communication. For each piece, I reflected on what the objective of the assignment was, and how my strengths as an effective communicator were shown in the final result. I also addressed how my skills had improved over time.
However, I have also had chances to communicate outside of the classroom. Though it is not really reflected upon in my portfolio, throughout my time at Penn State, I have been involved with THON, the 46 hour dance marathon that raises money for the Four Diamonds Fund, in the hopes of one day finding a cure for pediatric cancer. I have been on committees for THON, where I have learned to communicate with my fellow committee members and other volunteers, and in some cases, to be a leader. All of these experiences outside of the classroom have helped me to develop my communication skills as well.
My time at Penn State has helped me become a better communicator, a skill which has helped me become a better student, and will go a long way in an elementary school classroom in the near future. I hope to continue to improve my communication skills as I progress as a student and in my field.
