Civic Issues Blog: Educational Policies
As an Education major, I feel that it is important to stay updated on current educational policies and issues that are facing the nation today. In my Civic Issues Blog, I explored policies such as No Child Left Behind, Common Core, and researched the issues of segregation in schools and the decline of American schools in comparison to international schools. Through my blog, I was able to gain valuable information about topics I may one day face in the workplace, and I was also able to inform my peers about educational issues they may not have known too much about before they read my blog.

Rhetoric and Civic Life Blog
Throughout the year, the main focus of my Communication, Arts and Sciences class was analyzing what made rhetoric effective. My Rhetoric and Civic Life blog allowed me to look at certain things around the Penn State campus in the media and analyze what made their rhetoric effective and persuasive. Below are a few of my favorite posts from my RCL Blog.
RCL Blog #3 We Are... Penn State... Anyone who has attended Penn State or who has watched a Penn State sporting event knows the famous Penn State cheer "We are... Penn State!" In this blog post, I explored how those four words have rhetorical implications for Nittany Lions across the world.
RCL Blog #6... In this post, I explored the rhetoric behind hashtags on Twitter. Although many hashtags are tweeted as jokes, and are not meant to be taken seriously, other hashtags have the potential to create rhetoric and conversation about important issues and events between people all over the world.
RCL Blog #7... One of my favorite shows on Television is Saturday Night Live. SNL uses satire and rhetoric to bring humor to politics and world events. My favorite sketch from SNL was when Tina Fey and Amy Poehler portrayed Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton, respectively. I decided to write a blog post analyzing the effectiveness of the rhetoric from this sketch.
