Passion Blog: Surviving Your Freshman Year Without Total Disaster
For my Passion Blog, I decided to write a survival guide comprised with many of the lessons and pieces of advice I had learned during my first year at Penn State. Not only did this blog allow me to share advice with my peers, but their responding comments showed me that everyone else was in a similar boat as me, trying to find their niche in college. Furthermore, this blog has given me a chance to look back on my freshman year and reflect on how much I have learned and changed, and how much my writing skills have improved. This blog allowed me to write creatively and use some humor and sarcasm, which was a style of writing I had never really delved into before. Below are some of my favorite posts from throughout the year.
Lesson Seven: The Six Annoying People You Will Meet in a College Library... This was my favorite post that I wrote this year. I love reading pieces of literature that are humorous and sarcastic, but before this, I had never really had the opportunity to explore this type of writing myself. People-watching at the library provided me with the perfect chance to observe my fellow students and write about library etiquette in a humorous way.
Lesson Nine: Going Home Isn’t All It’s Cracked Up To Be... I wrote this post right after I returned to school after Thanksgiving break. While home for the week, I realized how much I missed Penn State and my college friends, and this was the moment when I truly saw that State College had become my new home.
Lesson Ten: Start The Semester Off Right... As I mentioned in this post, the beginning of my Freshman year was very overwhelming as I tried to address all of the changes in my life. Going into second semester, I decided to start the semester off right by looking at a few things that I had not done well first half of the year, and write about what I was going to do to improve during the second half of the year.
