This I Believe
"I Believe in Strangers on an Airplane"
This I Believe is a non-profit organization that encourages people to write short essays that describe the core values that guide their daily lives. In my This I Believe essay, I wrote about a chance encounter I had many years ago with a man on an airplane, who inadvertently help me discover that I have a neurological condition known as synesthesia.
This I Believe essays are often recorded, so that people can hear them read aloud by their author, which further enhances the emotion of the piece and connects the listener to the story of the author. The first time I recorded my podcast, I had trouble putting emotion and inflection into my essay. I went back and rerecorded my podcast, and was much happier with the result, as I felt that I had verbally communicated my essay much more effectively, with inflection and cadence. The podcast of my This I Believe essay can be found here.
